Name That Color: Updates!

Today I launched a new version of the game Name That Color!

Besides creating a new icon and improving the in-game menu, the major update is that you can now play three different game modes:

  • Easy: Just the easy colors are used (red, green, yellow, orange, etc.) and you’ll only get the question “Which color do you SEE”. Game consists of 50 questions.
  • Normal: Basically the old game type: If you do well the difficulty increases and more rare colors (like cyan, turquoise, lime) get added into the mix. Game consists of 50 questions.
  • Insane: This game mode runs forever, but once you make a mistake you’re game over! This mode uses all the colors. How far can you get?

In the Normal and Insane modes you’ll also get the question “Which color do you READ”, so you have to stay focused! For every game mode there is a separate Google Leaderboard to store the High Scores. I also tweaked the Ads a bit: If you finish quick or hit the restart button early on you’ll not always get an Ad. The longer you play, the higher the chance you’ll have to watch an ad. Sounds fair right? 🙂

This is how the Game UI should look on most devices:

New Game: Name That Color!

PoCombi is not done yet, but I thought it would be good to try something else as well. The concept of my second game, “Name That Color”, is to confuse your brain. You see RED, but it’s colored in blue. Which one do you answer? 😉

In this game there are two types of Questions: Which color do you SEE, and Which color do you READ. Be careful to choose the correct one! I launched it today, but I don’t want to try to hype it too much yet. First I want to improve the gameplay, add more achievements, fix some bugs and receive some feedback 😉

You can play/download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TenukiGames.NameThatColor

Any feedback, rating and/or review would be much appreciated! screenshot_featured_1024-500

Tenuki Games: How to set up and promote your new company?

Hi all, time for another post! Through this blog I will also try to elaborate about how my brand-new company* is doing. Maybe this information can be of some use to others later! 🙂

I’m not (yet!) going viral, that’s a fact. There are many many (did I say many?) game development companies and therefore many many Android games that I have to compete against. In the first few weeks that PoCombi is available I’ve learned that the hard way; my Google Play Installs are not going as fast as I hoped. But I’m also very happy that I got some great feedback from my friends in The Netherlands, and that PoCombi even managed to get some people addicted for a while 🙂 I’m around 30 installs and 33 leader-board scores, so that’s not so bad for my first (Unity/Android) game ever! The next goal is to manage to get in the 50+ downloads category. Will you help me? 🙂

To market/promote my game I did quite a lot actually. I created a Twitter account (that has quite some followers, but I’m afraid most of them are promoting their own game as well), a Facebook Page (with 30+ Likes), this Blog and I submitted my game to several stores and app-listing-sites, such as Google Play, AppBrain and AndroidPit. At this point I’m not willing to invest money (I also think I need a better follow-up-game first), so I’ll try my luck with my time and devotion first! At least I’m having fun with it.

But, it’s a nice start and I will keep on developing and promoting PoCombi for sure, while thinking about new projects on the side. Stay tuned for more!

* “Tenuki Games” is actually just a name (and a “social media entity”) at this point, but I’m seriously considering making it official later. In some post later I will explain where the name Tenuki comes from 😉
